Domestic ~ Commercial ~ Small jobs ~ Fault-finding

Electrical services

I'm Steve; hello. I am an electrician serving areas around Beeston, Nottingham.

Domestic and commercial electrical work

I undertake a variety of work for domestic and small commercial clients, mostly small jobs: adding or replacing lights and sockets; wiring up garages, sheds, home workshops and garden rooms; loft lighting, exterior welcome lights, extractor fans, new circuits, kitchen refurbishments, fuse board changes etc. I do periodic inspection and testing, and can issue you with an Electrical Installation Condition Report for your property.

I currently do not offer the following services: emergency (out of hours) call-outs; in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment (PAT testing); electric vehicle charging installation; any work relating to solar panels; alarm or CCTV security systems. I don't generally do full rewires, although I am happy to take on this sort of work if the property is unoccupied and it can be done over an extended period.

No job too small

It's a cliché, but it's true! Much of my work is small jobs, taking a couple of hours or so, but I'm happy to take on larger projects. I can sometimes fit you in on the same day if it's a really small job and you're local; however at certain busy times of the year I can be booked up for a few weeks.

Examples of work

If you're on Facebook, you can view examples of work done on my Facebook page. On there, you'll find a photo album, Simple things, done right.

Specialities

Fault-finding, steel conduit work, and solving tricky installation problems are my particular specialities. I have saved several clients money and unnecessary disruption to their property by thinking around the problem, coming up with neat solutions that are fully compliant with the relevant regulations.

Safety, quality, and integrity

I work conscientiously: your and my safety, and compliance with the IET Wiring Regulations, is always at the forefront of my mind. I sleep easy at night. If you're looking for someone to "just sign things off" - whether it's an unsafe installation, or work done by others - then I'm not the electrician you're looking for. I do quality work at fair prices.

Rates

Until the end of 2024, my rates are £40 for the first hour, then £30 per hour, charged by the half hour (or part). From January 2025, this will increase to £48 for the first hour, then £36/hr thereafter (I last raised my prices in October 2020). If it turns out that your job is really trivial and very quick to sort out (and does not require any certification) I will often - at my discretion - offer a discount on the minimum £40 charge. I charge a little extra for travel outside NG9, NG10, NG7 and NG8, just to cover my time and diesel - please enquire.

Professional details

I am a Member of the IET (Institution of Engineering Technology). I have numerous City and Guilds electrotechnical qualifications and diplomas (and also a Masters degree in Electronic Engineering). I have £2M public liability insurance covering domestic and commercial electrical work.

Part P registered for electrical work

I am registered for domestic electrical installation work with a Competent Person Scheme (NAPIT) - look me up on the electrical competent person scheme register (search for Dovecote Electrical in the box that says Company Name). If the work I do requires notification to the local authority building control - such as a board change, provision of a new circuit, or work close to a bath or shower - I can self-certify, and you will receive a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate in addition to the Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC).

Serving areas around Beeston, Nottingham

I work in and around Beeston including: Bramcote, Beeston Rylands, Chilwell, Attenborough, Wollaton, Dunkirk, Lenton, Long Eaton, Stapleford, Sandiacre, Toton, west Nottingham, and further afield.

Contact me

I'm happy to be contacted however you prefer - give me a call, send me a text, send me an email, or contact me through WhatsApp. If I'm with a client or driving then I won't be able to respond straight away, and my phone is set up so that it doesn't give me instant message notifications (I find it too distracting!). But leave a message, and I'll get back to you through your preferred method as soon as I can.
